Nearby Hersonissos is known as Crete's liveliest resort, with an attractive harbour lined with many restaurants, bars, taverna, cafes and clubs that come alive at night with live music and dancing. There are plenty of shops on the streets leading from the harbour through the town and most open late into the night. The old town is built on the hillside and has traditional Cretan tavernas, houses and crafts.
